Traveling with pets on SNCF and its high-speed services, including TGV INOUI and TGV Lyria, requires some preparation to ensure a smooth journey across French railways. Whether you're moving between France and neighboring countries or simply navigating the extensive network within France, here's what you need to know.
Pets on French Trains: You can take up to 2 pets or pet carriers on trains in France, but you need to purchase a ticket first. Pets are classified into 3 types:
Small Pets: pets weighing less than 6kg should travel in a carrier that measures 45 x 30 x 25cm. The carrier should either be placed at your feet or on your knee.
Large Pets: pets those weighing more than 6kg, must travel at your feet and must wear a muzzle the entire trip.
Guide dogs: these dogs travel for free and do not normally wear a muzzle.
